In this blog post, I am going to explain the Israel vs Palestine 2021 conflict. The two sides of the war are very different, with each side believing they have all the correct answers and that their way is best for everyone. There will be no middle ground reached as both sides refuse to compromise on any issue. We witness a new era of “us vs them” mentality where people can’t even agree on what’s true anymore. This is why we must take a step back from our own beliefs and see how things will look in 2021 before it’s too late.
It is a common belief that Israel and Palestine are two sides of the same coin. One is always right, and one is always wrong. If you ask Israelis, they will say Palestinian terrorism has to stop for peace talks to happen. Ask Palestinians, and they will tell you that they have been waiting for their country since 1948 without any luck at all. The reality of this situation can be difficult to comprehend because both sides seem so committed to fighting against each other with no end in sight. This blog post aims to present an objective argument on who deserves what from the conflict between these two groups of people
The Israel vs Palestine 2021 conflict has entered its 10th day, causing tremendous bloodshed and violence. More than 230 Palestinian, including 65 children, have been killed in the strikes by the Israelian forces.
On the other hand, Israel has faced a total of 12 casualties in the feud. Though the recent tensions seem to be a sudden turn of events, according to the New York Times, this is not instant, but an outcome of the many incidents that had been taking place lately.
One example is from April 13, the first day of the Muslim Holy Month of Ramadan, when Israelian forces entered the Al- Aqsa during prayer and disconnected the speakers, possibly not to drown out Netanyahu speech at the Western Wall on Memorial Day taking place that moment.
The action stirred the Muslims, who tagged it as an attempt of dishonoring the mosque as well as Ramadan.
“It was clear to us that the Israeli police wanted to desecrate the Aqsa Mosque and the holy month of Ramadan,” said Sheikh Sabri, the grand mufti of Jerusalem. “Their actions would cause the situation to deteriorate,” he added.
But, it begs the question. How this almost a never-ending conflict between the two nations started?
The History of the Palestine-Israel Conflict
The recent conflict between Isreal and Palestine is a flicker of fire burning for many decades. It started in 1920 after Britain took over the region following the collapse of the great Ottoman Empire in World War I. At this time, the Arabs marked the majority in the area, whereas Jews recorded only a minority.
The time in Europe also reported the Jewish persecution at the hands of Hitler, which they fled by running to other countries, mostly Palestine, and seeking refugee there. In the progressive years, the Jewish population in Palestine kept rising, causing an upset to the Arab natives.
The severe opposition by the Arab to the Jewish influx in the area fed to the tensions between the groups. In the coming years, especially after World War II, as more and more Jews entered the region, the clashes between the groups escalated.
British faced the difficult task of establishing a homeland for the Jewish within the Arab territory and failed to make a reasonable proposition, resulting in increased violence against the rule. However, on November 29, 1947, the UN intervened, and under UN Resolution 181, Palestine got divided amongst the Jews and Arabs into two separate regions. Thirty-three countries favored this resolution, in contrast to 13 votings against it.
The Jewish leaders accepted the decision. But, this indeed was not acceptable for the Arabs to witness part of their land taken from them. That’s why the resolution could not please them and failed to resolve the prevailing violence in the region. They realize the failure to solve the situation and the almost impossibility of drawing any reliable and agreeable solution by both the parties, the “crown” perceived to leave the region a better option.
As the British evacuated the region, Jewish leaders announced the state of Israel on May 14, 1948. Palestinians denied the creation of the new state. Thus a war that lasted eight months ensued. During this period, the Israelian forces razed more than 400 Palestinian villages, and hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced from their regions.
It is important to note that the displaced Palestinians and even their descendants were seen as a threat to the existence of Israel and were prohibited from returning to their native lands. As the war concluded in a ceasefire in 1949, Isreal held most of the Palestinian land. In 1967, in a six-day long war fought, Israel managed to take over the Arab East Jeruselum, the West Bank, Gaza strip, and the Golan heights, previously under the control of the Arab states.
The coming years embraced many chaos and violence, each causing massive loss of life. However, a notable development during this time is the First INTIFADA, a Palestinian uprising against Isreal in West Bank, Gaza, and Isreal that ended the same year in 1987. The second Palestinian INFITIDA started in 2000 following Ariel Sharon, a right-wing, Israeli politician visit to the Al-Aqsa, a Holy Muslim site.
As Hamas won the 2006 elections in Gaza, the skirmishes between the groups soared crazily.
Israel vs Palestine 2021 conflict continues as operations between the two persist.
Even this latest conflict consuming civilian lives is proclaimed to be a militant Hamas “wipe-out” operation by the Israelian authorities. How long will the bloodshed continue? It isn’t easy to answer, especially after considering the new updates which report of Isreal not stepping back from the war-zone and acceding to the ceasefire, even on the recommendations of the United States, unless its goals are met.
So far, the material loss in Gaza has climbed up to $322 million. The uprising proved to be great unrest for the healthcare and hospitals during the times of the pandemic. Also, the pressure on the Isreal from the Muslim World to end the Palestinians’ massacre is soaring.
