Barbados announces to remove Queen Elizabeth from the position of head of the state
Barbados wants to remove Queen Elizabeth as its head of the state and become a republic as soon as November 2021.
The announcement came forth Tuesday by Barbados Governor-General, Sandra Mason. In a speech delivered on behalf of the country’s Prime Minister, Mia Mottley, Mason said,
“The time has come to fully leave our colonial past behind.”
Located in the Caribbean, Barbados, home to almost 300,000, is among the prosperous Caribbean islands. It gained independence from Britain in the year 1966. After independence, Barbados maintained a formal connection with the British monarchy, and the Queen continued to acts as its head of the state.
As per Mottley’s latest speech, the country’s first female to hold the prime minister’s office, Barbados, intends to become a republic by November 2021. It wants to replace Queen with a Barbadian head of the state and continue its venture as a sovereign independent state. As Mason said,
“Barbadians want a Barbadian head of state. This is the ultimate statement of confidence in who we are and what we are capable of achieving. Hence, Barbados will take the next logical step toward full sovereignty and become a republic by the time we celebrate our 55th anniversary of independence.” Moreover, in the speech, Mason cited a warning by Errol Walton Barrow, Barbados’ first Prime Minister, against ‘loitering on colonial premises.’
The British monarch, Queen Elizabeth, is the head of the United Kingdom and 15 other countries that gained independence from the British Empire. The list of countries includes Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, and many other islands and countries located in the Caribbean and the Indian oceans.
According to Barbados Today, Barbados’ proposition of attaining a sovereign status is not recent and has been around since the 1970s.
It further reported Mason saying that “the peril and uncertainty of the times compel us to reinforce our foundation. Equally, we are challenged to shore up our traditional structures and find stronger, more resilient, more sustainable architecture, on which we can build a modern and enduring structure for current and future generations.”
What are the chances of this to happen? In this regard, a royal source said that the idea “was not out of the blue” and “has been mooted and publicly talked about many times.”
Rapper T.I Pays $75,000 Fine In Crypto Fraud Case
Rappers and police are often accompanying each other. Drugs and criminal activity tend to preclude rap stardom. This time it is the Atlanta based T.I charged with cryptocurrency fraud along with four others.
The Security and Exchange Commission announced this Friday that it had charged T.I along with four other residents of Atlanta, which also include film producer Ryan Felton. Ryan Felton described as the leader of the company that promoted two fraudulent and unregistered initial coin offerings.
The Grammy award-winner T.I’s real name is Clifford Harris, reached fame in 2008 with his hit songs that include ‘Live Your Life’ and ‘Swagga Like Us.’ According to the allegations by the Security and Exchange Commission. Clifford, 39, was involved in a cryptocurrency scam in 2017. Moreover, the fraud centered around the promotion and selling of Flik and CoinSpark.
The scam fell apart in 2017. Because a group of angry investors filed a complaint with the SEC, those investors reportedly lost millions of dollars in the fraud. Clifford managed to get many wealthy investors. He urged them to invest their money as he claimed to be the co-owner of the company. Plus, investors were told that the coin was worth $0.06 at the time of purchasing but will reach $14.99. Contrary to their expectations, the value of the coins decreased to $0.001 by 2018.
The Security and Exchange Commission told the Atlanta rapper that he was not allowed to do whatever he wanted and his participation in the scam is straightforward. Therefore after this revelation, T.I found it best to admit his guilt and saved himself from serving a jail term by getting a settlement.
Clifford agreed to get a deal in return for a $75,000 fine; however, he refused to admit the guilt and threw the whole story on Ryan Felton. Felton raised the money through initial coin offerings and promised to invest in starting a streaming service and a platform form for digital trading.
The SEC reported they spent the money on expensive vehicles. Plus, other luxury items, like jewelry. T.I helped Felton in attracting potential investors using his fan base. T.I’s lawyer claims the rapper had not received money from Felton. Moreover, T.I tried to exit upon realizing it was a scam.
T.I saved himself by paying a $75,000 fine, plus accepting a ban from the cryptocurrency market for five years. However, his associate Felton rejects the accusations and is reluctant to make any deals. The SEC after filing charges, also banned Flick and Coinspark
An Adult Ball Python That Shouldn’t Lay Eggs Did At A St. Louis Zoo
An Adult ball python laid seven eggs at St. Louis Zoo reported Zoo management in a statement on Tuesday. The problem? That python was 62 years old and way past its prime.
The statement further read, “that might not sound too thrilling to some, but to our Herpetarium staff, it was. This particular female snake is over 50 years old (the oldest snake documented in a Zoo) and has not been with a male in over 15 years!’
The adult ball python laid eggs on July 23. Out of the seven eggs, three are in the incubator. Two were separated for genetic testing to learn the reasons for this unusual reproduction. Whereas the reaming two could not survive.
As the St. Louis Zoo explained, this is an unusual case because a python female stops reproducing before 60. In this case, the snake is over 60. Moreover, it had not been near to a male for the last two decade
This news triggered many questions in the minds of the people. Some said if the female ball python had not been near a male for the last two decades, how were the eggs fertilized?
The Zoo manager for herpetology, Mark Wanner, said that the snakes could reproduce sexually and asexually. But, asexual reproduction in ball-pythons is unusual and is more common in Komodo dragons and some rattlesnakes.
He continued that the snakes can sometimes store the sperm for delayed fertilization, which might have happened in this case.
“It is unusual but not rare for ball pythons to reproduce asexually, and” the snakes also sometimes store sperm for delayed fertilization,” said Mark.
‘Without genetic testing, Zoo staff won’t know if this ball python reproduced sexually or asexually, but they intend to find out,’ reads the statement.
‘As the keepers continue to incubate the eggs, they will be sending off samples for genetic testing.’
Currently, there are two ball pythons in the St.Loise Zoo. One is this female. The other is a 32-year old male. But, the male is in a separate compartment of the herpetarium.
The female has been at the Zoo for more than 50 years now. It came to the Zoo in 1961 from a private owner. At that time, she was 3-year old. She is currently 62, and the oldest snake we know of in history,’ said Mark, the Zoo manager.
